For my interaction piece, I am still considering continuing with the shadow wall project. I have created an aural mood board based on two user paths that can occur: when the shadows are in sync with each other vs when they are out of phase (within a certain threshold). These two events would correlate to two different musical outputs: harmonic and dissonant. Within the two groups there can be sub-features as well like harmonic + activated/energetic, harmonic + peaceful, dissonant + chaotic and dissonant + peaceful.
Harmonic, peaceful and spacey: Hiroshi Yoshimura - Feel, Aleksi Perala - UK74R1406070 (note timemark 1:09),
Harmonic and active: Leif - Myrtus
Dissonant, chaotic/cacophonic : Rupert Clervaux - Make Nature Speak
Dissonant and peaceful: Aleksi Perala - UK74R1512040
I am also trying to brainstorm what are the ways that you can encode different sound information to the physical body. What I really enjoy from the sample tracks from my mood board is the synthesis of ultra high frequencies that resonate intermittently over a lower oscillating tones like in the Myrtus - Leif track. On the left is a diagram of two alternative ways that I can encode different frequencies of sound to the body. ABCD is just the body parts like the head, torso, legs and arms. A’B’C’D are the different sections of negative spaces created.
In terms of the user groups, I can imagine this being accessible to people of all ages and backgrounds. This is a piece that creates a possibility for strangers to get know each other intimately through movement without speaking a single word or seeing each others faces. For the development of this project, I will need to test it with everyone including kids, fellow classmates, professors and people outside of the ITP community to see how they would interact, what they expect to hear and any other feedback they would have about their expectations of the piece.
